Sights of Montenegro: description and map. Beautiful places in Montenegro What is interesting in Montenegro for tourists

I have a personal TOP of the most beautiful and unusual places in Montenegro, it does not coincide with any rating, since these are non-tourist places. To get into them you need car for rent, on regular bus you can’t get there, and this is not just a point, you need to walk here and enjoy. These 13 places have silence, picturesque nature, authentic architecture, and local residents unspoiled by mass tourism.

It would take a long time to list the wild beauties of Montenegro... but I’ll tell you about the most Beautiful places for me personally, here my soul rests, and my eyes rejoice in beauty 🏝🏡🌄🌅

1. Komovi Mountains

This place is hidden from the bustle of the city and tourists; not a single travel agency on the seaside sells it, and that’s wonderful! And the mountains are a special world where you are finally left alone, begin to hear yourself and your hidden desires, calm your nervous system, let go of the problems accumulated during the working week. Komovi's wild nature, rich flora and fauna fill me with positive energy.

Montenegro was a discovery for me last year, and if I had a couple of days off again, I would not hesitate to go to these 3 peaks, which are not inferior in beauty to the mountains of Durmitor or Prokletije. Total 170 km from Budva, and you feel the aroma of mountain herbs, hear the whistle of the wind, the murmuring of streams, the singing of birds... Near the Treshnevik mountain pass you will come across several places where you can rent a house or put up a tent nearby, I recommend (their phone number: +38267380532) or on the mountain pass, and if you are with a jeep, then stop at the very foot of the mountains in Katun Martinovica

2. Prokletiye Mountains and Grebae Valley

Another wild place in Montenegro, where civilization has recently reached. The Prokletije Mountains were declared a national park only in 2009, without receiving promotion, funds, or popularity among mass tourists because of this. The place still remains semi-wild, interesting for lovers of trekking, nature, and relaxation. Among the overhanging formidable rocks of Prokletiye there are several valleys where sheep and cows graze; simple eco-catuns and restaurants have been erected here. For example, on Booking you will find beautiful bungalows for 4 people, ask for ones with a wood stove

From Montenegro, I advise you to go to the Grebaje valley through Albania ( on the map), the new transit road will captivate you with a beautiful canyon, picturesque serpentines, the mountain river Tsievna and hospitable Albanians, be sure to take a break at Tamare village for a cup of coffee/beer. For Russians and Belarusians from April 1 to October 31, 2019, for Ukrainians and Kazakhs - all year round. And in the photo below is the peak of the Volusnitsa peak, where we went trekking last August ()

3. Village of Poseljani on Lake Skadar

In past centuries, a village in the bays of Lake Skadar Poseljani was a rich place, nature rewarded it powerful waterfall, who helped grind wheat and corn into flour for a huge edge! The millstones of 14 mills turned here, because of which Montenegrins from all over the area arrived on donkeys or boats across the lake. A century ago there were cafes, shops, and even some kind of casino. Now there is none of this at all. The earthquake of 1979 changed the waterfall, and Montenegrins no longer needed to live that primitive life with factories built in Podgorica and tourism in Budva.

Again, tourism was not affected Villagers because of the poor road... The bus will not pass, only a passenger car. Local residents, of whom there are only a few left, built an asphalt road from the highway to the village at their own expense, but closed it with a barrier. At the same time, tourists are welcome 🙂 The vicious circle can be broken by leaving the car on the upper road near the cypress trees and walking 15 minutes down to the waterfall. I advise you to take a swimsuit and cool off in the cold water in the hot summer.

I love the villagers for the real picture of a Montenegrin village; you can close your eyes and imagine the donkeys on this bridge with sacks of flour. Or women at the waterfall washing clothes. But alas, everything has sunk into the past

4. Sedlo mountain pass in Durmitor National Park

50 km connects regional cities, but you will drive for 1.5 - 2 hours due to winding serpentines, sheep and cows blocking your path. This road passes among the highest peaks of the Durmitor National Park, and will leave an indelible impression in your memory!

It is impossible for huge buses to pass along the winding road, so a regular Canyons tour does not include trips...

  • (not a convertible), if you are confident in your abilities, it is better to spend the night in Zabljak to enjoy the mountains - .
  • Buy the Grand Canyons excursion, they take you by minibus
  • I can recommend a good guide-driver who takes the Great Circle of Durmitor and River Canyons, the cost of such an excursion is 200-250 euros, depending on the season and seats in the car.

5. Panorama of Sveti Stefan and Crvena Glavica beach

You can admire the hotel island from different points, but I like it - less known and difficult to access - Church of St. Sava. There is an asphalt road there, but with serpentines and gullies. People like to do wedding ceremonies or romantic photo sessions here. But we come for the silence, contemplation of the red roofs of the Budva Riviera and the islands in the sea. I especially like it in spring, late autumn with a bottle of wine and getting high with a view of live photo wallpaper. More details about this panoramic point -

And another one of the favorite places in the Budva Riviera is located below this panorama - the bay with the beach Crvena Glavica 🏜 It is often called Plaza Galija to a summer restaurant. The place is amazingly beautiful - red rocks, emerald sea, and in the evenings - wonderful sunsets! And also close to, but in the distance, even in summer there are few vacationers here with cafes and beach equipment 💦

This one is among my favorites. At the end of May we were the only ones here, not counting the builders... The pebbles are medium in size on Galia beach, but I also like to climb the rocks on the right and just admire the sea

6. Piva Lake Canyon

Lake Piva is one of the most beautiful places in Montenegro. I advise you to visit in the morning or afternoon in sunny weather, then it will look like a blue mirror surface. This artificial lake of several branches appeared on the site of the flooded Piva River during Yugoslavia, when a dam was built. You can drive along its canyon if you are going to Scepan Polje for rafting on the Tara, or by combining it with a visit to the national one. You can come to town Plužine, rent kayaks or motor boat, just swim on the beach, dine on delicious home cooking in Ethno-village “Izlazak”, you can also stay overnight with them - on.

In autumn or after rain, the Piva Lake canyon takes on a mystical appearance

7. Lake Bukumir in the Kuchki Mountains

There are many mountain lakes of glacial origin in Montenegro, and they are much more interesting and less crowded than the accessible and touristic Skadar or Black Lake. In April, I wait for the snow to melt on the road and go to a fairy tale - to Lake Bukumir in the Kuchki Mountains. In summer the picture will not be so picturesque, although trekking will be available due to the more pleasant climate, the routes in the mountains will be marked. Read more about Bukumir Lake and the road to it.

8. Gorlo Sokolovo Gorge

13. Canyon of the Mrtvica River

If you love wildlife and hiking, then go to. Here you can arrange a short hike, without elevation changes, suitable even for children, the walk takes from 1.5 to 5 hours back and forth, depending on where you go... You will see old bridges, a seething mountain river, a jungle of trees and moss! You can grab a swimsuit to freshen up!

And another recommendation for what to see nearby - stop on the way to take a photo at suspension bridge, if you are with children, visit the petting zoo-orphanage in Brezna, and believers will be interested in the Moraca Monastery. The list of my favorite non-tourist and most beautiful places in Montenegro does not end here; explore the country off the highways, turn off often and walk along marked paths!

In this article I will describe in detail how to organize your trip, what you must see in Montenegro and what excursions to go on.

How to organize your own trip

Flights

I usually buy plane tickets 3-4 weeks before the trip, although if you buy tickets 2-3 months in advance, the tickets will be cheaper. To begin with, I determine the dates of my trip, then immediately look at the cost of tickets for the dates I need on the website . It is more profitable to buy tickets with departure Tuesday-Thursday, usually the highest cost is for Friday-Monday.

There are only two airports in all of Montenegro, in Tivat and Podgorica. I chose Tivat airport because it is located on the coast and it is much faster and cheaper to get to any resort town. Fly from Moscow to 3 hours 20 minutes.

Note!!! If you are flying to Montenegro by plane Pobeda Airlines, then buy your seats during online registration. The fact is that since October 2018, registration at the Montenegro airport costs 25 euros per person. If you do not have your registration with the specified seat on the plane or 25 euros, then you simply will not be allowed on the plane. Online check-in closes on the airline's website 4 hours before departure. You will have to pay 10 euros per 1 kg for excess baggage at the airport. If you brought things into the waiting room, then before boarding you will have all your hand luggage checked in a special box, the size of which is 36 x 30 x 27 cm. You will have to pay 45 euros if hand luggage will not fit in this box.

Flight schedule from Moscow to Tivat

Accommodation in Montenegro

After the plane tickets are purchased, I look for a hotel or apartment. During my first and third trips, I rented accommodation in Budva through an international service Airbnb , A I also rented rooms in guest houses in Kotor and Tivat through the well-knownBooking.

1. (discount )

2. Airbnb.com

Insurance for tourists

I always buy travel insurance through service . I bought insurance twice from Liberty Insurance and once from RESO Guarantee. The last time I paid 498 rubles for insurance for 7 days. ServiceCherehapaconvenient in that it compares services and costs of insurance policies from 15 insurance companies . If you set your parameters, you will immediately see the cost of all insurance. I myself was lucky enough not to use health insurance, and I wish the same for you!

Visa

Russians, Belarusians and Ukrainiansnot required . During the summer months, citizens of the Russian Federation can vacation in Montenegro without a visa for 90 days. The rest of the time you can stay in Montenegro for 30 days without a visa.

To holiday in Montenegro you only need a passport!!!

How to get from Tivat airport to your resort

Before my first trip to Montenegro, I was looking for information on how to get from the airport to Budva by bus. Everything turned out to be simple. You need to leave the airport building, walk about 50-70 meters to highway (Jadranska magistrala) and wait for the bus. If you are embarrassed to stand near the road, then you can walk 300 meters towards the city of Tivat, there is an equipped stop there. The city of Tivat is on the left if you stand with your back to the airport. There is no need to cross the road.

Bus waiting areanear Tivat airport

Since there is no stop directly at the airport, you need to raise your hand for the bus to stop. By the way, if you go to an equipped stop, you also need to raise your hand, otherwise the bus will not stop. The fare must be paid to the conductor, who himself approaches the passengers.

The buses do not have numbers, there are only signs indicating the direction. If you are traveling to Budva, then Budva may be indicated(Budva)or Ulcinj (Ulcinj). If you travel further than Budva, for example, to Becici / Rafailovici / Sveti Stefan / Petrovac / Sutomore / Bar / Ulcinj, then there will be a sign Bar (Bar) or Ulcinj (Ulcinj)). If it's necessaryto Kotor, then Herceg Novi will be indicated), or Igalo), or Kotor.

Bus schedules and fares can be found atwebsite busticket4.me, only this site does not show the schedule from the airport to the city you need, so you need to indicate the city of Tivat, and not Tivat airport. Just add 1 minute to the indicated time, which is approximately how long the bus travels from the bus station in Tivat to the airport. But sometimes buses are late due to traffic jams, which also happen in Montenegro.

Taxi

Near the airport there are always a lot of bomb drivers waiting for tourists. They offer their services and will take you anywhere. Only their fare is usually much higher than in a specialized taxi.

It is very convenient to order a taxi from home via the Internet. When you arrive in Montenegro, a taxi will be waiting for you near the airport. You can find out the cost of travel and order a taxi at the internationalor Montenegrin

Rent a car

If you are traveling to Montenegro with your family or a large group and are not planning to relax only on the beach, it is convenient and cheaper to rent a car than to take a bus or organized excursions. With a car, you will travel around Montenegro on your own, you will be able to visit beautiful beaches and attractions far from the cities, and you will not depend on bus schedules and excursion groups. You can view cars and rental prices on . The cost of renting a car is from 20 euros per day.

Before your trip, download the appMaps.meon your phone, this is the most detailed and convenient map for traveling around Montenegro.

Money in Montenegro

In Montenegro national currency isEuro. It is advisable to take euros with you in cash, as they are not accepted everywhere. bank cards. IN big stores and restaurants you can use the card (I used a Sberbank debit card), but in transport, small cafes, souvenir shops and in places remote from popular tourist places, you can only pay in cash. In addition, if you rent an apartment or room from the owners, you will have to pay them in cash.

You can withdraw cash from your card at an ATM, but take into account the conversion and commission. In my opinion, it is better to exchange rubles for euros in your own country, looking for a favorable rate, and go on vacation with cash.

How much money to take with you

Before your trip, calculate your basic expenses:

Hotel/apartment - if you book in advance and do not look for accommodation on the spot, then you will know the exact amount of payment. You may be asked to pay a deposit for one day of stay if you book on services, be sure to read the booking conditions.

Directions - you need to decide in advance how you will move around the country, how you will get to the hotel from the airport. For example, from Tivat airport to Budva, travel by bus costs 3.50 euros, by ordered taxi/transfer - from 25 euros, you can rent a car at the airport from 28 euros per day.

Registration - You must register with the tourist office within the first 24 hours if you are staying in an apartment or room. If you live in a hotel, then registration may or may not be included in the price; this must be clarified with the hotel. It is advisable to keep your hotel reservation sheet until you return to Russia. The cost of registration in Montenegro is 1 euro per adult per day.

Nutrition - if you rent an apartment with a kitchen or a room with a shared kitchen, you can buy food in a supermarket or market and cook it yourself. If you want to forget about the kitchen during your vacation and try Montenegrin dishes in restaurants, then lunch will cost you 7-25 euros per person.

Eexcursions - the cost of a tour of Montenegro starts from 25 euros per adult and 12.5 euros per child.

Museums - if you want to visit local museums and galleries, then ticket prices range from 1 to 3 euros.

Beaches - you can sunbathe on the beaches in Montenegro for free with your own towel, but if you want to use a sunbed and umbrella, you will have to pay 10-15 euros.

Souvenirs/gifts - it all depends on what you want to keep as a souvenir of Montenegro, for example, if you like to hang magnets on the refrigerator, then the cheapest magnet can be bought for 1 euro. Typically, the more popular the place, the higher the cost of souvenirs. In my opinion, the most expensive place to buy souvenirs - the Old Town of Kotor; it is better to buy souvenirs in Herceg Novi in souvenir pavilions on the embankment. In Budva there is a shop “Everything for 1 euro”. You can expect souvenirs to cost from 1 to 15 euros.

Petrol — if you are going to travel around the country by car, you will have to refuel it. Gasoline cost: A 95 - 1.41 euros, A 98 - 1.37 euros (prices are current in May 2019).

Products in the store — when renting apartments with a kitchen, you can save money by buying groceries in stores and markets. Here are the costs of some products: egg - from 1.2 euros, bread - from 0.6 euros, meat - from 2.5 euros, beer - from 0.6 euros, wine - from 3.5 euros, strawberries - from 3 euros , ice cream - from 0.6 euros.

Registration in Montenegro

Registration of tourists in Montenegro is mandatory. It can be checked when leaving the country, for example, at the airport or at the border when traveling to another country. For lack of registration - a fine of 200 euros. Therefore, it is better to keep the registration receipt until you return to your homeland, and also take it with you if you go on an excursion to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia or Albania.

If you have booked your stay in good hotel through, then you No need go to the post office and tourist information center yourself (Tourist info) To register, this is done by the hotel staff themselves. Some hotels/guesthouses/hostels may charge you an additional fee for registration, 1 euro per day.

If you rent an apartment/apartment from the owners throughAirbnb or , then most likely you will need to do the registration yourself. Although when I was on a tourist tripom information center, I saw local hosts who themselves came with passports and registered their guests.

How to register yourself in Budva

Registration must be done within the first day of your stay in Montenegro!!!

II did the registration in Budva myself. To do this, you need your international passport, also ask the owner of the apartment to write down the address of the apartment/house and last name on a piece of paper. First, go to the post office to pay for registration, 1 adult - 1 euro per day, 1 child - 0.5 euros per day. At the post office, give the passports of everyone registered and tell the post office employee: “Registration.Quantity days”, she will tell you the payment amount. You will be given a pink slip - a receipt for payment of registration, with which you immediately go to the tourist information center.

There are two information centers in Budva tourist center (Tourist info), one is located in the Old Town, but I could not find it, although I wandered for a long time through the narrow ancient streets. The second tourist information center is located at the intersection of the main street of Budva - Yadran highway ( Jadranski put) and Filip Kovacevic streets ( Filipa Kovačevića). Give your international passport, a piece of paper with your residential address and a receipt to the center employee, she will give you a receipt confirming your registration in Montenegro. Place the receipt in your passport and keep the receipt with you until you return home.

Addresses of post offices in Budva:

Excursions in Montenegro

There are many beautiful and interesting places in Montenegro. I believe that you can go to some places on your own, but there are places where you can’t get there on your own, and the presence of an experienced guide who can tell interesting stories about the sights, interesting facts and outstanding Montenegrins gives more insight into the country than any guidebooks.

You can get acquainted with all group and individual excursions in Montenegro on the services And . On these excursion booking services you can find interesting excursions with professional Russian guides who have lived in Montenegro for a long time and received a guide license.

I went on several group excursions. I offer my list of excursions that will help you get to know beautiful Montenegro as best as possible.

Main excursions around Chernogoria in Russian

In my opinion, this is the main excursion in Montenegro. During the excursion you will see the sights of the north of Montenegro: the Moraca Monastery, the canyons of the Moraca and Tara rivers, the Djurdjevic Bridge, Durmitor National Park, Black Lake.

Tour cost: 40 euros - 1 adult, 20 euros - 1 child.

An alternative to this excursion can be two more excursions:

Excursion

This is an extended “Canyons” excursion; additional attractions have been added to the already listed attractions.Nyon of the Piva River and Piva Lake.Tour cost: 65 / 40 euros

Individual excursion

This is convenient if you are traveling with family or friends. By car with a guide you will go to the north of the country, take you to the canyons of the Tara, Moraca, Piva, Nevid riversio and Komarnitsa, as well as the Durmitor National Park.Tour cost: 285 euros - up to 4 people (guide + car), 355 euros - up to 6 people (guide + car), 135 euros - only the guide (you are in your own car).

My most vivid memories from my trip to Montenegro were visiting the city of Kotor, the Djurdjevic Bridge and the Petar Njegos Mausoleum. During this excursion you will visit the Njegos Mausoleum, which is located on the top of a mountain in the Lovcen National Park. From the observation deck near the mausoleum, most of little Montenegro is visible. In addition, during this excursion you can visit the Cetinje Monastery in cultural capital countries,Cetinje . The monastery houses the Hand of John the Baptist, the man who baptized Jesus Christ. The excursion also includes a visit to the village of Njegusi, where you can see how local craftsmen make Njegushi prosciutto, one of the main dishes innational cuisine of Montenegro.

Tour cost: 35 euros - 1 adult, 20 euros - 1 child

I would like to note that the Ostrog monastery is the third most visited monastery in the world after Jerusalem and Mount Athos in Greece. Part of the monastery is built high into the rock. The relics of S are kept hereSaint Basil of Ostrog the Wonderworker, the most revered saint in the Balkans. After visiting the monastery, a bus with tourists heads to the capital of Montenegro - Podgorica to visit cathedral Resurrection of Christ. Patriarch of Moscow All Rus' Alexy II in 1993 consecrated the first stone laid in the foundation of the main Orthodox church Montenegro.

Tour cost: 25 - 1 adult, 12.5 euros - 1 child

During this wonderful excursion you will be able to walk through one of the the most beautiful cities and sights of Montenegro - through the Old Town of Kotor with a guide, learn the rich history of this place, climb the fortress of St. Ivan, which towers above the city. And then everyone will sail on a boat to another of the ancient cities of the country - Perast. There are two islands near the city. On one island there is a monastery closed to tourists, and on the second island there is a Church of the Mother of God, which you will visit with a guide. Next, the boat will sail past coastal towns and Mamula Island. There is a stop at Zhanitsa beach so those who wish can swim and sunbathe.

Tour cost: 25 euros - 1 adult, 12.5 euros - 1 child

Imagine: you are sailing on a boat on a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains, fish are splashing in the water, birds are flying. Stops are provided; if you wish, you can swim in the lake if you take swimsuits. This is what a tour of Lake Skadar, the largest and most beautiful lake in the Balkans, is like.

Tour cost: 40 euros - 1 adult, 20 euros - 1 child

What to see in Montenegro on your own by bus or car

Kotor

The first place you should definitely visit in Montenegro is. The main attraction of this city is the Old Town and the Bay of Kotor, on the shore of which Kotor is located.

Information kiosk, near the Main Gate to the Old Town

It is best to enter the Old Town through the Main Gate, near which there is a tourist information kiosk, where you can get a free map in Russian.

Stroll along the ancient streets of the Old City, visit ancient temples, climbFortress of St. Ivan (San Giovanni), which offers beautiful views of the bay. The cost of climbing the fortress is 8 euros. Take water with you!!!

I stayed in Kotor for two days in a guest houseVicky Apartments . In the evening I walked around the Old Town. Many tourists visit Kotor during the day and therefore do not know that in the evening the lanterns are lit in the Old Town and it resembles a fairy-tale town with narrow streets and mysterious nooks and crannies.

If you have the opportunity to visit the Old Town of Kotor after sunset, do not miss the opportunity to wander, and perhaps get lost, in the labyrinths of this ancient city.

All the sights of Kotor are located in the Old Town. A walk, climbing the St. Ivan fortress on the mountain and exploring the city’s attractions can take you 3-4 hours.

There are a lot of souvenir shops in the Old Town, but due to the fact that in the summer months huge liners arrive at the port of Kotor every day and the narrow streets are crowded with tourists from all over the world, the prices for souvenirs here are greatly inflated. When I first arrived in Montenegro, I didn’t know about this and bought a children’s T-shirt in Kotor for 12 euros, and in Herceg Novi I saw the same T-shirt for 5 euros.

Perast

Small but beautifulis located 9 km from Kotor. Several centuries ago, Perast was a rich, prosperous city. Palaces and churches were built here, rich merchants and sailors lived here. There are attractions left from the days of former glory, because of which hundreds of tourists come to Perast every day.

In Perast, be sure to sail to the islandGospa od Škrpjela, which means "Our Lady of the Rock". On the island of Gospa od Skrpjela there is the Church of Our Lady and a small museum.

I recommend climbing the 55-meter bell towerChurch of St. Nicholas. The ascent to the bell tower is paid, 1 euro. From here you can enjoy beautiful views of Perast, mountains, islands and the Bay of Kotor.

There is also a Maritime Museum in Perast, locatedin the Bujović Palace (1697). Once upon a time Peter the Great sent young nobles to the local navigation school to learn maritime skills from famous navigators.

Sightseeing in Perast may take 2-3 hours.

Herceg Novi

On the banks of Boko Kotor Bay not far from the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina there is a botanical garden of Montenegro -. This city is calmer than Budva or Kotor. But there are also many attractions here.

Herceg Novi has an Old Town, although it is not similar to the Old Towns of Kotor and Budva. The main historical attractions of the city are the two fortresses Kanli Kula and Forte Mare, the Sakhat Kula tower, and the Orthodox monastery Savina.

I really enjoyed the walk along the city embankment, along which you can walk to the medical. On the Herceg Novi embankment there are pavilions where you can buy various souvenirs, and there are also many restaurants and cafes.

To see Herceg Novi and explore local attractions, it will take 3-4 hours. You can come here by bus, which runs along the entire coast, or .

Budva

First of all, I want to note thatis the most popular tourist city in Montenegro. The infrastructure is well developed here, several beaches (pebble and sand), many different (hotels, apartments, rooms, hostels), many shops and supermarkets, nightclubs and bars, restaurants and cafes with dishes , attractions in the Old Town, and from the local bus station you can go to any city in Montenegro and even to neighboring countries.

If you have chosen another resort town for your holiday, then it is worth coming here to stroll along the narrow streets of the Old Town of Budva, have lunch at a restaurant on the embankment, and go to or go to a nightclub.

The main attractions of the Old Town: the Citadel, withoborSt. John's with the bell tower and the archaeological museum.

The symbol of the city is the statue “Ballerina from Budva”. This statue can be seen on the road to Mogren Beach.

In Budva you can hire a guide who will guide you , will tell a story and show interesting places.

Tivat

IN I stayed for three days in a guest houseApartments Miana . What I liked best about this cityPorto Montenegro is a large yacht port. I would describe Porto Montenegro as an expensive European mini-city in Montenegro. If you want to see beautiful yachts, then you need to come to Tivat and see it with your own eyes.

Perhaps because of Porto Montenegoro, Tivat has a different atmosphere than other coastal cities in Montenegro.

In Tivat you can go to the Montenegrin Maritime Heritage Museum, take a walk in two city parks, and visit the Church of St. Sava.

The place of attraction in Tivat is the embankment, especially in the evening hours.

From other cities you can come to Tivat by bus. From the bus station you need to walk 20-25 minutes to the city center, where all the main attractions are located. It will take 3 hours to walk and explore the city.

Bar

In the very There are very few attractions since the city suffered from a strong earthquake in 1979. Nikola's palace on the embankment has been preserved here. Now the palace houses a local history museum.

In 2016, the beautiful Cathedral of St. John Vladimir in the center of Bar was illuminated. I was in Bar when the cathedral was still under construction and did not go inside.

The main attraction of Bar isOld Bar . If people live and shops and restaurants operate in the Old Towns of Kotor, Budva and Herceg Novi, then the Old Town of Bar is a large open-air museum. You can get here by city busNo. 1A, get off at the final stop.

I really enjoyed wandering through the narrow streets of the destroyed city, imagining how people used to live here. There are churches, a Turkish bath - hammam, and various other buildings. It will take you about 1 hour to explore the Old Bar.

Restaurants and shops near Old Bar

Near the Old Bar there is a mosque built inXVIIcentury, there are also restaurants and souvenir shops.

What language to communicate with Montenegrins

Many tourists are scared and stopped from traveling abroad by what they don’t know English language or the language of the country they are traveling to. In the case of Montenegro, language difficulties are unlikely to arise, especially if you vacation in a resort town, since many Montenegrins live off tourists from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. I met Montenegrins who studied Russian in schools. As one Montenegrin told me: “We understand Russian well, but we can’t speak.” As a last resort, you can learn the most.
