Resort Costa del Sol, Andalusia. Attractions, the best beaches, activities and recreation on the coast

Costa del Sol is the southernmost coast of Europe, washed by mediterranean sea, a popular resort in Andalusia. Translated from Spanish, Costa del Sol means "the coast of the sun", this name is no coincidence, since there are a very large number of sunny days a year, especially in summer, when there is practically no rain. The Costa del Sol is a popular holiday destination among Europeans. Among Russian tourists, it is considered quite expensive compared to, for example, the democratic Costa Brava, which is not entirely true. Here you can organize a vacation for every taste and budget, and in this article I will tell you how to choose the right place to stay.

Malaga

Malaga is the capital of the Costa del Sol and is the sixth largest city in Spain with a population of over 560,000 people. It is here that planes arrive from various European cities, including from Moscow and St. Petersburg. Look for profitable flight options to Malaga Here.

Low price flight calendar:

History and modernity are intertwined in Malaga. Here, architectural monuments of the Roman, Catholic and Muslim periods of the city's history coexist. There is something to see in Malaga: this is the Picasso Museum and the Malaga Historical Museum. There is even a branch of the Russian Museum here.

It is pleasant to walk along the streets of the old city, along the recently reconstructed port embankment, sit in one of the many street restaurants, tasting the famous Spanish tapas, paella or fried fish with a glass of wine or sangria.

In addition, Malaga is a convenient starting point for exploring other cities in Andalusia.
Malaga has many great places to swim, including the city's famous black sand beach, La Malagueta.
In general, you already understood that staying in Malaga, you can combine cultural holidays with beach and gastronomic holidays.

Malaga on the map:

Torremolinos

With all the advantages of relaxing in Malaga itself, it is still a large metropolis. Behind the classic beach holiday tourists, as a rule, go to the vicinity of Malaga, and the nearest resort town to it is Torremolinos. It is located just 8 km from Malaga. Getting there is very easy. High-speed trains go there directly from the airport. Travel time to the La Colina stop is only 15 minutes, Montemar Alto - 20 minutes.

The sandy beaches of Torremolinos are among the best in Spain. There are quite affordable prices for accommodation, restaurants and other entertainment. The town is quite small. But keep in mind that it is located on the hills and to go somewhere, as a rule, you have to overcome significant ascents. Therefore, it is better to choose a hotel closer to the sea. But from there to the city center you still have to climb up. These shortcomings are compensated by the picturesque place. In the evenings, here, as elsewhere on the Costa del Sol, nightlife is seething. The Montemar Alto area (Carihuela beach) is quieter and more family friendly, and the liveliest area is considered to be from the Meliá Costa del Sol hotel and further to the Bajondillo beach area.

The city also has a free park La Bateria, a crocodile farm, a water park and a botanical garden.

It is convenient to choose an accommodation option in Torremolinos HERE.

benalmadena

The city has a developed tourist infrastructure: there is a port with yachts, several routes of tourist trains run. Here is the Sea life aquarium, the Tivoli amusement park, the cable car.
You can get to Benalmadena from Malaga by bus, but by train it is not very convenient to do this, since the stop is quite high in the mountains and far from the sea. But this station is located in close proximity to the Tivoli Park and the cable car.

Prices in Benalmadena are slightly higher than in Torremolinos, not counting the areas quite remote from the sea, which I would not recommend.
See accommodation options HERE.

Fuengirola

Fuengirola is the final stop of the train from Malaga, it is an hour away. Quite a large city, in the summer the population here increases to 250 thousand people. Unlike Torremolinos and Benalmadena, it is located on a hill, which reduces the flair, but adds comfort. It has everything you need: a water park, an amusement park, a zoo, museums.
Please note that the train station is located at the entrance to the city, and you will have to get there by bus.

Housing prices in Fuengirola are reasonable, but, again, pay attention to the distance to the beach.

Look for hotels and apartments in Fuengirola here.

Marbella

Marbella, Puerto Banus and Nuevo Andalucia are luxury resorts on the Costa del Sol. A large number of wealthy foreigners, including Russians, live here.
Many celebrities have villas or come to rest here.

Marbella looks very rich Old city superbly restored. On the alley leading from the old city to the coast, there are 10 original sculptures by Salvador Dali.

Marbella is protected from the winds by mountains. in connection with which there is the mildest climate and the greatest number of sunny days.
There are expensive boutiques and nightclubs here, restaurant prices are higher than in other places. It is believed that housing prices here are quite high, but inexpensive options can be found in Marbella.
You can get to Marbella by bus from Malaga Airport or the city center. Travel time is over an hour.

See HERE for accommodation options in Marbella.

Estepona

Estepona is the last resort town on the southern coast of the Costa del Sol. This is a place for a relaxing holiday, with a developed tourist infrastructure. Estepona is considered one of the most beautiful cities on the coast of Spain. Snow-white houses are buried in flowers and orange trees.

You can get to Estepona by bus (travel time from Malaga is about 2 hours). The bus station is located on the outskirts of the city.

Costa del Sol, sunny Beach is located in the south of Spain. This is a real resort pearl of the country - here, in Andalusia, there are amazing beaches, the most luxurious villas, this is the birthplace of flamenco and bullfighting.

Tours on the Costa del Sol are bought by those who want to see the bullfight with their own eyes, taste the icy revenge gazpacho and get a bronze tan on one of the magnificent beaches.

Climate and weather Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol is the warmest place on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Swimming here begins in mid-May. Warm water remains until October. The Andalusian mountains protect the beaches from the wind.

Resorts on the Costa del Sol

The most famous resorts on the Costa del Sol are Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Malaga and Marbella. Tourists also come to Estepona, Nerja and Fuengirola.

Malaga is the capital of the region. Pablo Picasso was born here - the city is very proud of this, the Spanish king even gave his own residence, the Palace of Buenavista, as a museum. Be sure to look into this museum and get acquainted with the work of the great artist. The uniqueness of such a trip is that you can see much of what the artist painted in reality. The beaches in Malaga are crowded but clean. The city regularly hosts various festivals and holidays - you can admire the flamenco and even dance with the Spaniards.

Benalmadena is a wonderful family resort. The beaches stretch for several kilometers. The main entertainment here is a visit to the Selvo Marina theme park, where a dolphinarium, an exotic bird show, and a cinema are open. Tivoli World Amusement Park and Sea Life Aquarium are also must-see places. Tired of sunbathing on the beach, you can ride the tram on the cable car - it will take you to the top of Mount Calamorro. The view is simply breathtaking - some even manage to see Africa and Gibraltar.

Torremolinos is a party resort, there are many restaurants, bars, discos and themed hotels. It is worth taking a walk along San Miguel Street to feel the whole Spanish atmosphere of this place. The beaches in Torremolinos are wide, the most famous being Carihuela and Bajondillo.

Marbella - luxury resort with super luxury hotels. Here are the villas of many celebrities, the bay is completely lined with yachts. The cozy resort of Fuengirola is perfect for both family and youth economy class holidays. In addition to beautiful beaches, there is an aqua park, a biopark and many restaurants and bars.

Attractions Costa del Sol

Arriving on the Costa del Sol, be sure to visit the city of Malaga. In addition to the indescribable atmosphere of the ancient Spanish city, you will get a lot of impressions from visiting the Pablo Picasso Museum and, if you are lucky with the season, bullfighting. Bullfighting in Andalusia is a long tradition, so in Malaga they built a huge arena for it - Plaza de Toros. Bullfighting starts in spring and runs on Sundays. It is better to book tickets in advance, otherwise you will get to the most distant places, from where you cannot see anything without binoculars. If the bloody action does not attract you, you can just look into the bullfighting museum, which is located here, or wander around the arena (on weekdays, admission to the Plaza de Toros is free).

Both children and adults will be interested in visiting Montes de Malaga Park. On a vast territory, among streams, hills and valleys, several thousand amazing creatures live - birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles. Perhaps a chameleon will want to meet you, of which there are especially many here. On an excursion it is worth going to Seville, Granada, Cordoba or Madrid. Popular among tourists are visits to the caves of Nerja and the city of Frigiliana.

Cuisine of the Costa del Sol

Andalusian cuisine is full of seafood and fresh vegetables. Of course, you should definitely try the cold gazpacho soup with peppers, cucumbers and croutons, and for the second - grilled sardines on the grill. The fish are cooked according to a unique technology - they are strung on a bamboo skewer and stuck into the sand around the coals.

"Sea cocktail", "pescaito frito" - a great way to try everything at once. Baked oysters, lobsters and octopuses in a tomato-garlic seasoning will leave you with hearty memories of a holiday on the Costa del Sol.

Desserts in Andalusia are primarily almonds. The most famous delicacy is the almond pie, "tarta de almendros". Desserts combine sweet and salty, honey, cottage cheese, raisins and almonds.

Without a doubt, the Costa del Sol is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. This south coast, which translates as "Sunshine Beach", stretching from Almeria to Tarifa, caters to tourists of all tastes, ages and nationalities, offering such a wide range of amenities and entertainment that everyone will be delighted. Do not stand aside and Russian travelers planning a vacation in Costa del Sol in 2020, Spain - prices, entertainment, attractions.

The history of the area goes back to the Phoenicians, who first appeared here. Since then, it has been inhabited by Greeks, Romans and Moors, who left a motley mark on the architecture and culture of the region.

Previously, all resort centers were ordinary fishing villages. In the 20s of the last century, the coast remained virgin and gradually developed as a resort until the 50s. Since the 1960s, the region has been experiencing a tourist boom, which continues to this day.

The Costa del Sol is as rich in culture as the rest of Andalusia, from Picasso to bullfighting, from flamenco to colorful fairs. The capital of the Malaga region is the second largest Andalusian city with a population of 600,000. The locals are very friendly and open, perhaps because of the consistently good weather and hot sun, or because of the fabulous Mediterranean diet, or perhaps simply because they live in a beautiful, cultural city by the sea.

Malaga's sister cities are Philippine Manila, Portuguese Faro, Lima, the capital of Peru, American Mobile and Galveston.

The name "Coast of the Sun" is 100% justified. Can you imagine a place with 320 sunny days a year? At the same time, the climate of the Costa del Sol is mild. resort cities

Holidays in this part of Spain are notable for the fact that there are Costa del Sol resorts focused on elite holidays (Marbella, Estepona), but average tourists will also be able to get their portion of the Costa del Sol by settling, for example, in Benalmadena or Fuengirola. The prices here are more democratic.

Marbella is the largest city in the province of Malaga. The bulk of vacationers in Marbella and Malaga are representatives of the elite. These are politicians, actors, musicians, entrepreneurs, offspring of royal families. Many of them no longer stay in local hotels, but come to their own villas or apartments. It is known that the city's embankment is washed daily with a special cleaning agent. A few kilometers from Marbella is the famous harbor of Puerto Banus - celebrities often have fun there.

This is another trendy resort on the Costa del Sol. He began to actively build up relatively recently. Therefore, in the city center you can admire the buildings in the old Andalusian style, and on the waterfront you will see the most modern buildings - hotels, villas, apartment buildings. When the sky is clear, the outlines of Africa can be seen from the Estepona promenade. Nature lovers are advised to visit the Selwo Aventura safari park, located in the vicinity of Estepona.

Torremolinos

Torremolinos is only 7 kilometers from the airport. Thanks to this location, the city has become the most visited and cosmopolitan resort on the coast. In the warm season it is quite noisy and crowded. Hotels for all categories of tourists, long and wide beaches, turnkey infrastructure, a whole sea of entertainment - this is what Torremolinos looks like today.

benalmadena

Benalmadena is practically adjacent to Torremolinos. There are a little less hotels here, but the beaches are freer even in season. The local yacht club is considered one of the most beautiful in Spain. With the onset of the evening, discos open, and the city becomes truly party-like. The central part of the city in Benalmadena, as well as in Estepona, conveys the flavor of a typical Andalusian settlement. And the embankment is a concentration of entertainment - an amusement park, a penguinarium and a dolphinarium, boutiques, souvenir shops, casinos, nightclubs, restaurants, bars ...

Fuengirola

In the middle of the 20th century, one of the many fishing villages turned into a popular resort with long beaches and developed infrastructure. The city has a zoo, a water park, as well as a huge number of shops. Therefore, tourists who come here mainly for the sake of the beaches have an excellent opportunity for shopping. Local hotels are aimed at middle-class tourists, although there are also elite ones. In winter, it is much more crowded than in neighboring Benalmadena or Torremolinos.

Attractions

The beaches of the Costa del Sol are magnificent. However, numerous monuments of history and culture of Spain also claim the attention of visitors. Andalusia, on the territory of which the Costa del Sol is located, is called the soul of Spain. It was here that everything “the most Spanish” was born - bullfighting and flamenco. Islam, Christianity, the cultures of the ancient Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans are reflected here. Consider the most famous sights of the Costa del Sol.

Church of Santa Isabel (Malaga)

Santa Isabel is the smallest church in the world. Its area is only 1.96 m2 and on this occasion the church is listed in the Guinness Book of Records. The chapel is hidden inside another cult building - Colomares Castle. It was erected in the 20th century in honor of Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America. The architects of the castle brought to their work the features of all the architectural roots of Spain - Byzantine, Romanesque, Moorish and Gothic styles.

The cathedral is the epitome of Gothic. Construction was carried out from 1528 to 1782, that is, more than 250 years. The best masters of their time participated in its creation, including the artist Alonso Cano and the sculptor Pedro de Mena.
