The Zvezdochka shopping center (Taganskaya street, 1) is located in the historical part of Moscow, on Taganskaya Square, between Alexander Solzhenitsyn and Taganskaya streets, occupying the corner where they approach Taganskaya Square.
The shopping center was opened in April 2001 after the reconstruction of the building, which increased its area from 2200 to 5200 sq.m. During the previous reconstruction of the building, completed in 1937, the facades and external contour of the building in general acquired their current appearance, but it no longer met modern requirements. Until the early 1990s of the 20th century, the building housed a branch Children's world- the Zvezdochka store, which had only two separate trading floors - 300 and 100 sq.m. The two-story building had an internal technical courtyard with a gate and small basements used for warehouses. Part of the second floor of the building was occupied by communal apartments.
In order to increase the area trading floors and create a central “core” of the building - an atrium that unites retail space building, a full-fledged basement floor was opened under the entire area of the outer perimeter of the building, the courtyard was covered and a full-fledged third floor was added, which increased the area of the building by almost 2.5 times. As a result, instead of a building with two wings located along Taganskaya and Bolshaya Kommunisticheskaya streets (now Alexander Solzhenitsyn Street) and converging into a single facade facing Taganskaya Square, towards the Taganskaya-Koltsevaya metro station, we got a single modern triangular building with an atrium in the central part. At the same time, the facades of the building and its general external contours were restored. In addition, at the request of the city authorities, two vaulted rooms from the late 18th - early 19th centuries in the basement of the building were preserved and restored.
It was decided to keep the old name of the store, beloved by Muscovites, “Zvezdochka”, adding new modern content to it. Today the building, which combines centuries-old traditions and modernity, is an adornment not only of Taganskaya Square and the Tagansky district, but of the entire historical center capital, especially in the evening, thanks to artistic lighting.
The building reconstruction project was developed by architects and specialists A.P. Rudakov, B.P. Lebedev, V.A. Rosenfeld, O.B. Vasilyeva, S.E. Sokolsky and others. Yu.T. Kadoshchuk was responsible for the general concept and design of the shopping center.
The central “core” of the building is a small four-level atrium with a three-flight staircase, connecting the building vertically from the ground floor to the 3rd floor, to which storefronts open. In total, the building has 4 levels (ground and three above-ground).
On 3 floors there are more than 20 shops and restaurants for every taste.
