Tank biathlon. Final relay of the "Tank Biathlon": Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, Russia Tank Biathlon grandstand layout

The Russian team confidently took gold with a final time of 1 hour 30 minutes 43 seconds. Our shots were simply excellent, and the mechanics generally demonstrated unsurpassed skill. No fines for passing obstacles. Perfect. Above all praise.

Kazakhstan took silver with a final time of 1 hour 45 minutes 41 seconds. Well, as soon as he took it, he literally tore it out of the hands of the Chinese. If the competition had a separate category for willpower and the desire to win, then the Kazakhs would have received this medal without any doubt. Slide down to fourth place, then resist and step by step, clenching your teeth, stubbornly, by the middle of the distance, grab onto the scruff of the Chinese team and methodically push, push, push, and finally push! Well done. Worthy of respect.

Accordingly, the Chinese team received bronze with a final time of 1 hour 46 minutes 50 seconds. They tried. No fools. And they walked the distance well. It should be noted that the experience of participating in previous biathlons was not in vain for the PRC. They improved the chassis of their “type” very seriously. Not a single breakdown. By the way, they also shot very, very well. As soon as the gun operator identified the target, a shot was fired within 3 to 4 seconds on average. For a long time, more than 11 seconds, if my memory serves me correctly, the Chinese aimed only two times out of nine shots. But they weren’t doing so well when it came to finding a goal. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if next year they roll out the “C” modification to the competition with a much more effective search and guidance system. And then it will become difficult for us.

Belarusians took fourth place, with a time of 1 hour 48 minutes 40 seconds. No, they did everything right, demonstrated skill, high-quality training and tried very hard, but they were simply unlucky. A little bit. Somewhere there was a slight lack of accuracy in shooting. Somewhere the speed was a little too short. Somewhere we were a little overcautious on obstacles. By next year, the Belarusians will have to work carefully on all this “a little bit”.

Now about the conclusions:

Tank biathlon 2017 was certainly a success. Both as a military sports competition and as a spectacular show. The result of an increase in quality is obvious even in comparison with last year, which in itself was also quite good, and even more so when compared with the very first “pancake”. Although, of course, serious work still needs to be done on the speed of updating materials on the Biathlon website. How to get to Alabino and the rules of the competition are well written there, but the 2017 competition has already ended, and in the media section there are photo-video materials from only a year ago. Although it would seem that with the current volume of press coverage and the number of films and cameras that were deployed along the route, it would be possible to post fresh photos, if not by the evening of the same day, then by the morning of the next - for sure. In general, there is what and where to polish.

The general trend of increasing attendance is encouraging. The year before last - 12 countries. Last year - 17. This year, 19 countries took part in the Tank Biathlon. Including: Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Venezuela, Belarus, Azerbaijan, India, Serbia, Mongolia, Laos, Armenia, Nicaragua, Angola, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Uganda, Iran, Zimbabwe. The dynamics are positive. There is reason to hope that next year there will be even more participants.

And... I am, of course, already a big enough boy to understand that Santa Claus does not exist, but still somewhere deep in my soul there glimmers a timid hope that in the end the command of the armies of the NATO countries will still find someone with Faberge big enough to spit on politicians and risk competing with us in tank biathlon... The chance is of course extremely slim, but what if? I really want to believe in a miracle. Then a truly powerful show would come out.

Well, a few purely technical touches for purely military purposes:

2. In a competition between a tank and anti-tank weapons, everything will depend on the question: who will attack whom first. With a serious tilt to the side - who will see who first. If the first is a tank, then with anti-aircraft and coaxial machine guns it will destroy the crew of an anti-tank missile system or a guntruck from one and a half kilometers away with a probability of 0.6 - 0.7. The tank will have time to cover the target before the target fires its aimed shot. But this is only if the tank notices it first, which, judging by the results of the competition, raises serious questions. So for now, especially among anti-tank weapons, there is a serious advantage. Moreover, even if the tank detects the moment of the shot, its need to urgently move from its place in order to disrupt the capture of the target by the ATGM guidance system will worry much more than aiming and opening fire at the place from which the ATGM took off.

3. The only means of strategically stopping a massive tank offensive, not counting tactical nuclear weapons, are anti-tank mines. Everything else is baby talk in the sandbox. Tanks have learned to overcome traditional methods, such as anti-tank ditches and scarps, quite easily. Of course, the training of line crews is inferior to the competing elite, but still the costs of constructing “impregnable structures in tank-hazardous directions” are many times greater than their final benefit. And only the massive use of minefields, even just in bulk, makes it possible, if not to completely stop, then to decisively reduce the pace of movement of the advancing tank units.

4. Tales about the life of a tank on the battlefield are too much mythologized. The tank continues to be a formidable and serious weapon. And in capable hands, that’s all.

5. In terms of the technical level of their tanks, the Chinese are behind us, but not by much. But the Indian-assembled T-90, how can I formulate this in the presence of the ladies... in general, it’s not ice, not ice at all. Critical problem with the engine and transmission.

And so... this year's game is over. Personally, I am looking forward to Tank Biathlon 2018.

And for those who for some reason were unable to watch the finale, I recommend the recording. Believe me, it's worth it.

The winners of the individual Tank Biathlon race were awarded in Alabino

All prizes for Russian tankers

Today, August 10, 2017, the third semi-final relay of the Tank Biathlon 2017 ended, at which four teams were determined to participate in the final. And today, in Alabino, near Moscow, a solemn ceremony was held to award the winners of the Individual Race stage, which ended on August 6. The awards to the winners and prize-winners of the competition were presented by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces, Colonel General Oleg Salyukov. This was reported by the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

Third semi-final of "Tank Biathlon - 2017"

Venezuela, Iran, India, China

Two semi-final races of the Tank Biathlon are behind us. August 10 is the day of the third and final semi-final, when four teams are determined that will take part in the final of the tank competition on August 12, 2017. For some, today was a good day, since the team will continue to fight in the final relay for first place and prizes in the Tank Biathlon 2017. But 8 teams (out of 12 semi-finalists) completed the competition. Obviously, China and India had good chances to reach the finals. Moreover, both teams competed on their own tanks (China - Type 96B, India - T-90 "Bhishma"). So, August 10 - the third semi-final: Venezuela, Iran, India, China.

Second semi-final of "Tank Biathlon - 2017"

Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Mongolia

The Russian team became the leader of the first semi-final of the Tank Biathlon on August 8, 2017 (Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Serbia participated in the first semi-final heat). And on August 9, the teams of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Mongolia entered the start of the second semi-final. Of today's participants at the "Individual Race" stage, which ended on August 6, the tankers of the Republic of Belarus, who took 6th, 7th and 9th places, demonstrated more stable results. But the “Relay Race” in tank biathlon is a much more complex, dynamic and less predictable competition than the previous one. Who showed best time in the second semi-final? And who will ultimately reach the final of the Tank Biathlon?

First semi-final of Tank Biathlon 2017

Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Serbia

The Individual Race stage is completed. Based on the results of the races, 12 teams were selected from 55 crews representing 19 countries at the competition. And the teams of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Serbia competed in the first semi-final relay. According to the judges, the Tank Biathlon relay is the toughest competition. After all, in this event there is a completely different number of targets, a completely different load on the tank, which must go through almost the same thing as in the “Individual Race”, but three times. The team performs on one tank, changing crews at the end of the race. Each team had to complete 12 laps, hit 24 targets and show the best time, which became the main criterion for qualifying for the finals.

12 teams reached the semi-finals of the Tank Biathlon

Semifinal races will take place on August 8, 9 and 10 at the Alabino training ground

Based on the results of the meeting on August 6, 2017, the judging commission of the international tank crew competition identified the 12 best teams that qualified for the semi-final relay of the Tank Biathlon. These are the teams of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Venezuela, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Mongolia, Russia and Serbia. This fact is reported on the website of the Russian military department. The semifinal races will take place on August 8, 9 and 10 at the Alabino training ground. Based on their results, the 4 best teams will be determined that will compete in the final relay on August 12, the closing day of the International Army Games 2017.

On August 6, the “Individual Race” stage of the “Tank Biathlon” ends

"Tank Biathlon 2017" - a brilliant performance by all Russian crews

The “Individual Race” stage of the 2017 Tank Biathlon ended on August 6, when the crews of Kyrgyzstan, Serbia and Russia competed in Heat No. 14, and the crews of Armenia, Venezuela, India and Nicaragua competed in Heat No. 15. What was decided today? Firstly, the winners and prize-winners of the individual race in the individual competition were determined. And secondly, it became known which teams will continue to compete in the semi-final relays (to be held on August 8, 9 and 10). Thus, the end of individual races does not mean the end of Tank Biathlon 2017 for the 12 best teams.

Individual race "Tank biathlon" August 5, 2017

Heats 12 and 13: China and Belarus

The international competition "Tank Biathlon", held as part of Army Games 2017, started at the Alabino training ground on July 29. And on August 5, 2017, tankers from Azerbaijan, Kuwait, Mongolia and China competed in heat No. 12, and Iran, Kazakhstan, Zimbabwe and Belarus competed in heat No. 13. The winners and prize-winners of the individual race in the individual competition, as well as the 12 best teams that will perform in the semi-final relay, will be determined on August 6. The semifinal races will take place on August 8-10. Based on the results of the semi-finals, the best four teams will advance to the final, which will be held on August 12 (the closing day of the games).

10th and 11th heats of the "Individual race" stage

The individual Tank Biathlon races continued after a short break. On August 4, 2017, the next team crews entered the competition. Today, Armenia, Venezuela, India, Nicaragua took part in heat No. 10, and Tajikistan, Angola, Laos took part in heat No. 11. The Indian crew hit all targets, completed without penalty laps and finished with a preliminary result of 21:43. Angola cleared the scarp on the second attempt. The Laotian team car required technical assistance and, after some time, medical assistance for the commander, who was injured, and therefore the crew was removed from the race.

On compliance with the rules of "Tank Biathlon"

China fined, 4 crews from other countries disqualified

As has already been noted, if earlier the time of the individual race of the second Chinese crew was 23:22, then “suddenly” it increased. It turns out that everything is simple, but sad for Chinese tankers. The second crew of the Chinese team, Lieutenant Zhou Bo, was fined 42 seconds for a violation committed by military personnel when loading ammunition at the loading site. This decision of the judging commission of the international competition "Tank Biathlon" was reported on the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on August 2, 2017.

"Tank biathlon" August 1, 2017: Russia maintains leadership

Heats 8 and 9 of the individual race

Iran, Kazakhstan, Zimbabwe, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Russia took part in two heats of the Tank Biathlon Individual Race on August 1, respectively. These were the second crews of their states. Presumably, Zimbabwean tank crews were disqualified for gross violations and damage to the vehicle, adding to the sad list, which previously included one crew each from Kuwait, Nicaragua and Uganda. Iran did not hit a single target. The Russian guys managed to get closer to the record time - 19:10, which was demonstrated by the first crew of the Russian Federation. You can see the results of both today and the “overall standings” below.

"Tank Biathlon 2017": Races on July 31

Can China beat Russia in the individual race?

Before the Tank Biathlon competition on July 31, there was already an intrigue. Indeed, among other worthy teams, the second Chinese crew competed in the seventh race. Let us recall that the first crew from China demonstrated on July 29, 2017 fantastic time completing the distance – 19 minutes 40 seconds. But the next day, Russian tank crews improved this figure - by as much as 30 seconds, becoming not only leaders in the overall standings, but also setting an absolute record for speed and shooting accuracy for the entire duration of the Tank Biathlon.

Tank biathlon: three races July 30, 2017

Russia shows the best result and leads in the Tank Biathlon

On July 29, 2017, on the opening day of the International Army Games, we saw two races of tank competitions. And on July 30, 2017, three races of the “Tank Biathlon” awaited us at once, in one of which the Russian crew participated. Of course, many Tank Biathlon fans hoped that our guys would be able to surpass the excellent result of the Chinese tankers shown yesterday. So, today is the 3rd race: Iran, Kazakhstan, Zimbabwe, Belarus; 4th race: Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Russia; Heat 5: Armenia, Venezuela, India, Nicaragua.

The international army games, in which more than 4,000 military personnel from 29 countries will take part, will be held from July 29 to August 12 on the territory of 5 states. On the same days, Tank Biathlon 2017 will take place, in which 19 countries from Europe, Asia, Central and Latin America, and Africa will participate. Based on its results, the colors under which the tankers will compete and the dates of the races will be known.

Tank biathlon July 29, 2017 event starts at 10.00 (indicated on the ticket)
Chronology of events with comments:
09.30 – we parked the car in the parking lot of the Patriot Park, went through security, boarded a free bus, which in 5 minutes took us to the tank training ground.
10.00 – approached the podium. It turns out that the opening ceremony will begin at 12.00, and the Tank Biathlon at 14.00. And if we go into the stands, they won’t let us back out.
10.00 – 12.00 – We wander around the territory. There is absolutely nothing to do. On the territory there are 11 pieces of equipment (8 tanks, 1 infantry fighting vehicle, 1 infantry fighting vehicle, 1 howitzer, 1 armored personnel carrier), a small exhibition of souvenirs, a couple of tables for assembling and disassembling machine guns and field kitchens that do not work. As they explain to us, they will start working at 13.00, that is, at the time when they will have to watch the biathlon from the stands.
But there are about 40 food outlets with the same assortment (hot dog, shish kebab, borscht, solyanka, pancakes, warm water and kvass).
12-00 -12.30 - we sit on the podium and listen to the chatter of the commentator (which is difficult to remember).
At the same time, an announcement sounds: “If you do not have enough space in stands A and A1, then you can go to stands B and B1.” People begin to move from stands A and A1 to stands B and B1, which is about 300 meters away. That is, tickets are being sold uncontrollably.
12.30 – 13.50 – Opening ceremony: a dozen parachutists jumped, two helicopters flew for three minutes each (because of the roof of the stand, none of this is practically visible), 4 tanks twirled in front of the VIP stand, depicting a tank ballet. 3 tanks, 3 armored personnel carriers and 3 infantry fighting vehicles took turns firing at targets. For some reason they cut it off mobile communications. I didn’t ask my neighbors in the stands, but for the four of us, neither incoming nor outgoing communications worked.
13.50 – 14.30 - commentator announcement that the 1st race of the tank biathlon will begin at 14.30. Everyone is invited to visit the “Field Kitchen”. People rush out of the stands and run to try army food. Half an hour later, leaving piles of garbage and half-eaten buckwheat porridge in the field kitchen, people return to the stands.
14.30 – 15.30 – First race of the “Tank Biathlon”. The burden is terrible. You see practically nothing. Tanks roll around, load ammunition, shoot and pass a ford somewhere in the distance. They appear in front of the stands twice during the entire race (two laps). In front of stands A there is a pit, in front of stands B there is a glue bridge (a small hillock of concrete). In fact, you are watching a television screen that also shows nothing, either a target in full screen, or a tank in full screen.
15.30 – 15.45 – A break between races is announced. Three quarters of the spectators leave and never return to the stands, but move towards the buses.
15.45 – 16.30 – Second race of the tank biathlon. The Chinese team was pleased with their excellent shooting and speed of passing the route (the only positive moment for the whole day).
This is where the “HOLIDAY” ended. An escort of cars took the guests from the VIP stand to helipad(about 200 meters) and they flew away. The rest of the guests, with the same beautiful escort, left a little later. The inspector carefully stopped buses full of ordinary spectators to allow them to pass.

The result of the whole day is lost time, money and a spoiled mood.
I express only my opinion and the opinion of the people who came with me.
If it was different for someone, then I am very happy for you.
