The first detachment of Azov Cossacks under the command of Yesaul Podgursky, together with their families, arrived on the banks of the Khabl River on May 28, 1863. They were soon joined by about 200 Cossack families. And the formation of the Abinsk Cavalry Cossack Regiment began. The village of Khablskaya immediately became a military-administrative center. It housed the headquarters of the Abinsky regiment and the regimental administration. Construction proceeded quite quickly. By the end of July most of the houses were ready. In the autumn of the same year, a special flying detachment was formed from local Cossacks under the command of Colonel Frolov. More than once Frolov’s detachment had to go on a campaign against detachments of highlanders that appeared in the vicinity.

The biggest undertaking was, perhaps, the campaign on October 2, 1863, when Colonel Frolov gathered almost all the troops from the Abinsk and Khabl cordon lines and moved to the upper reaches of the Khabl River to repel the attack of the Shapsugs. Having successfully completed the main task, Frolov led troops along the northern and southern slopes of the main Caucasian ridge while simultaneously capturing villages.

After the victorious raids of the Cossacks by the end of 1864, the raids of the mountaineers on southern regions countries practically ceased to exist, and peaceful life began for the village. In 1867, the village of Khablskaya was renamed Kholmskaya. Then there were already over 300 households and almost 2000 inhabitants, a church, shops, shops, forges and even schools.

In our time, the village has become the center of the Kholm rural settlement. The descendants of the Azov Cossacks live here.
